As a communications professional, I have over 9 years experience in writing content and copy for the organisations I work with. My writing has helped inspire volunteers to organise fundraising events right across the UK, colleagues to understand the fast changing world during the covid pandemic moving to immediate home based working, engage employees in recognition programmes for global organisations and promote the public to donate to great causes.

The word sounded strange to begin with, no one knew what it was, where it came from, if it was even real, and it seemed so far away. But then all at once, it was here, it was everywhere. The word on everyone’s lips that we are now all too familiar with. And we all know it’s devastating consequences.
It’s affected us all. In every imaginable way - our jobs, our families, our politics, our social lives, our relationships, even our attire. We’re now all so used to wearing masks and sanitising everywhere we go, asking before we hug and the discomfort of lateral flow home testing or virtual dates.
We’ve been fast tracked into a world where virtual connections aren’t just a novelty, they are our everyday. And the times when we can be together ‘IRL’, we think nothing of sitting outside shivering, opening the windows, keeping our distance or cancelling plans.
We’re all hoping, especially at this time of year, for a better future. A future where we don’t have to be on high alert all the time. Where we can see our families and friends in person, without the fear of passing on a potentially lethal virus. But mostly, a future that’s ‘normal’.
We’ll always remember these years, but hopefully we won’t forget the good bits. The charity in local communities, helping neighbours, not judging people if they don’t feel comfortable doing something. Sacrificing things in our own lives, to protect the people we love. We know that we’re all, every one of us, getting through this together.
Because we all know it’s devastating consequences, the word on everyone’s lips. It’s here with us, everywhere. It’s real, everyone knows what it is and it doesn’t sound strange any more.
Our DEI philosophy is a journey to create an inclusive experience for the people and customers we work with. As a line manager, we know that you’re passionate about making sure our customers get the best possible service we can give. And that you want to make sure your team is as effective as they can be in their role. Part of this is ensuring that everyone feels included and heard, as well as fully equipped.
We’re intentional with the global culture and capabilities we develop, part of the foundation for this is embracing and learning from diversity, and reflecting internally the communities we serve all around the world. Our most successful people managers value the importance of this because it means we can give the best service possible by understand our customers’ needs and giving them a voice.
Enabling our managers to lead diverse teams successfully is the key to success, investing in training our leaders for a better tomorrow – the best place to start is with ourselves. So please make sure you attend one of our training sessions on inclusive working and accessible workplace practice.
These sessions as so important to help you lead your teams. Imagine, your team is directly serving customers and there is someone who has a hearing impairment, how do you suggest they best help them? Would it help if there was someone in your team who had a hearing impairment themselves who could advise? If the answer is yes, then this training will help because it will make sure we are a fully inclusive organisation so that we can attract and hire a more diverse workforce.
We understand that as a manager your time is precious, so if you are unable to attend, or have a suggestion on how we could make it easier for you to attend, please do get in touch with your training and development team and we can make sure we’re enabling you to be the best you can be.
